The COBB 2002-2007 Subaru WRX Anti-Sway Bar Kit is one of the most effective ways to improve handling without negatively affecting ride quality or NVH. The perfectly balanced kit increases front bar stiffness to 880 lbs/in and rear bar stiffness is adjustable from 460 lbs/in, 560 lbs/in, or 690 lbs/in to resist body-roll, sharpen turn-in response, and reduce understeer. The CNC bent anti-sway bar kit includes rear mounting brackets and stiffer polyurethane bushings with bushing brackets for instant suspension response, and all are direct factory replacements to ensure perfect OEM-like fitment without compromising performance. The bushing brackets also include built-in grease fittings to make maintenance quick and simple.

COBB Tuning is proud to announce the latest updates for the Subaru AccessPORT and AccessTUNER suite of engine management tools. In addition to the exciting news of our Subaru 2.0L Speed Density support, this release also includes support for the 2010 Subaru Impreza 2.5GT, a new data logging and Live Data monitor for all Subaru AccessPORTs, and significant AccessTUNER enhancements across all supported Subaru vehicles. ACCESSPORT UPDATES

New Applications

  • 2010 2.5GT: USDM 2010 Impreza 2.5GT is now supported and has been added to AP-SUB-003. The firmware includes Stage1 and Stage2 performance maps and Non-Performance maps including Economy Mode, Valet Mode and Anti-Theft Mode. These maps are also available for download from the Subaru AccessPORT Off-The-Shelf Map Database.

Monitor Enhancements

  • Inj. PW (No Lat): The Inj. PW (No Lat) monitor was added to the firmware. This is a version of injector pulse width without injector latency and with higher precision. See software changes in next section for more details.
  • Inj. PW (w/Lat): The existing Inj. Pulse Width monitor name was changed to Inj. PW (w/ Lat). This was necessary to distinguish between this monitor and the new Inj. PW (No Lat) monitor described above.

Update Firmware

  • Existing AP-SUB-003 AccessPORTs can be updated to support the 2010 Subaru Impreza 2.5GT and all Subaru AccessPORTs can be updated to include the new Inj. PS (No Lat) monitor quickly and easily via a firmware update. If you are unfamiliar with the AccessPORT firmware update process, follow this Step-By-Step AccessPORT Firmware Update Guide. This is a general release firmware and there is no reason to update to beta firmware.

New Tables

  • Primary Open Loop Fueling Max. Enrichment (Intake Temp)(SUB-001 ONLY): This allows for removing/tuning a newly discovered rich limit to primary open loop fueling based on intake temperature.
     
  • Fuel Injector Trim (Small IPW)(ALL SUB-002 and SUB-003): These tables govern a compensation to the final injector pulse width based on the currently calculated pulse width (when low). The factory compensation can be problematic for large aftermarket injectors and tuning this table can help with the idle issues that result.
     
  • SI-DRIVE Intelligent to Sport Mode Override (08-12 STI ONLY): These tables govern an automatic switching from intelligent SI-DRIVE mode to Sport when the accelerator pedal is held at or above the stated threshold for the period of time determined by the delay. Tuning these tables will allow you to manipulate this behavior or remove it entirely.
     
  • Rear O2 Sensor Related Closed Loop Fueling Correction Factors (ALL SUB-002 and SUB-003): The two table groups below (one or the other, used depending on ECU) allow you to tune the effects of the rear O2 sensor on fueling. This current release adds the tables to the non-SD 2.5L ECUs (previously already added to SD 2.5L ECUs).

  • Idle Airflow Min. Target Decel. Ramping Adder The two tables below (in addition to the other existing tables already in this category) could potentially be useful for tuning idle airflow decel behavior (on cars with aftermarket cams, for example). This current release adds the tables to the non-SD 2.5L ECUs (previously already added to SD 2.5L ECUs).
     
  • Target Throttle Angles (Idle Airflow Target) (ALL SUB-002 and SUB-003): The two table groups below (one or the other, depending on ECU), allow you to manipulate the resulting idle-based target throttle angle adder. This could be potentially useful for cars with aftermarket cams, for example. This current release adds the tables to the non-SD 2.5L ECUs (previously already added to SD 2.5L ECUs).

New Monitors

  • Inj. #1 Pulse Width (No Latency):The Inj. #1 Pulse Width (No Latency) monitor was added to AccessTUNER. This is a version of injector pulse width without injector latency and with higher precision. This was necessary because some of the table values, such as Fuel Injector Pulse Width Limit (Min), referenced injector pulse width without latency, which made it confusing to tuners that could only monitor the standard injector pulse width, which includes latency. This original monitor was renamed Inj. #1 Pulse Width (With Latency).

New Toggles

  • Key-On DAM Reset Toggle (10-12 Legacy GT only): The 10-12 LGT have unique logic that resets the DAM to its initial value on every key-on. Unchecking this toggle and reflashing the map will prevent this from happening.
     
  • Neutral Position Switch Invert and Fuel Pump Fault Detection Toggle (SUB-001 ONLY): Some manual transmission swaps require that the neutral position switch determination by the ECU be inverted. This can now be accomplished for the 2.0L ECU (both SD and non-SD) by unchecking the new Neutral Position Switch Invert (MT) toggle (requires map to be reflashed).
     
    Additionally, a new toggle has been added to disable (when unchecked) the Fuel Pump P0230 Fault Detection. This may be necessary with certain aftermarket fuel pump installs. Also requires that the map be reflashed.
     

Miscellaneous Changes

  • Some minor table name and unit name changes for clarity and/or consistency.
  • Some additional table sub-groups added to better organize groups with large numbers of tables or to better group tables with similar but distinct functionality.
  • (SUB-002 and SUB-003 non-SD): Lowered the maximum MAF Calibration table airflow value from 2000 g/s to 1000 g/s, to allow for better graphing of this table.
  • Some other minor changes to min or max table values.
  • (SUB-002 and SUB-003): MAP Sensor Calibration (Offset/Multiplier) table split into two separate tables.

Update Software

  • Update Existing Software: To update your existing Subaru AccessTUNER Pro or Race software, simply select Help > Updates > Check For Updates. Make sure the Beta Software box is unchecked. Follow on-screen instructions.
  • Download New Software: If you do not have a copy of AccessTUNER Race software, or your older version of AccessTUNER Race does not have the Auto-Update feature, please visit the Subaru AccessTUNER Race product page, click on the AccessTUNER Race Download Request Form link, and fill out the form in its entirety. You will receive an email shortly that contains a link to download your free copy of AccessTUNER Race. COBB Tuning is proud to announce the immediate availability of our proprietary Speed Density (SD) tuning solution for all currently-supported 2.0L USDM turbocharged Subaru vehicles with manual transmissions! This capability is available as a free update to our AccessTUNER Pro and AccessTUNER Race software and AccessPORT firmware. Our implementation of Speed Density adds our proprietary tuning logic to the factory ECU, enabling it to calculate load, ignition and fueling requirements using the engine’s manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, instead of the factory mass airflow (MAF) sensor. COBB Tuning’s exclusive Realtime tuning capabilities and Hybrid Logic (active switching between MAP and MAF based logic) make this a uniquely powerful and flexible engine management solution. Why Speed Density
The most basic function of an engine control unit (ECU) is to measure airflow and its translation to engine load. Precise and consistent load calculations along with feedback from other critical sensors allow the ECU to accurately control ignition timing, variable camshafts, and fuel delivery. The most common way to measure load in modern vehicles is with a MAF sensor. Vehicles with stock engines and mild upgrades can utilize the MAF sensor with excellent overall results. However, in big-build and motorsports applications where power levels are extremely high and intake airflow configurations are less standardized, the use of a MAF sensor can be limiting.

Speed Density tuning using the Subaru factory ECU is a major break-through for high-power Subaru builds. High-power builds using the OEM MAF sensor require very large MAF intake housings to keep the MAF sensor within its usable range, which introduces reduced resolution and unpredictable turbulence that can affect tunability and drivability. Eliminating the need for a very large, high-quality MAF intake housing using Speed Density tuning logic allows for more flexibility when designing a turbo kit and the associated piping and plumbing. Speed Density tuning gives precise control over fueling, timing and other critical tuning components necessary to properly calibrate the vehicle at the very high power levels that today’s big Subaru builds are capable of producing.


 

Hybrid Logic – Ultimate Flexibility
The Speed Density update for AccessTUNER Pro software offers multiple ECU control modes to give the professional tuner and AccessPORT user a wider choice of engine modifications and tuning options. The software can program the ECU to run in the traditional pure MAF mode, a pure “Speed Density” mode, or a Hybrid Mode which uses both MAF and “Speed Density” with dynamic logic switching between the two.

Tuning Efficiency
COBB’s proprietary Speed Density implementation overcomes many of the limitations and tuning difficulties inherent to the Subaru 2.0L ECU. No longer is there a need to employ hacks to artificially raise the airflow and load limits present in the factory 2.0L ECU. These limits have been internally raised for COBB 2.0L Speed Density, allowing you to simply tune with real-world airflow values (up to 655 g/s) and load values (up to 10.0 g/rev). Additionally, in SD (Speed Density) mode, only the new load limit will come into play, allowing for the accommodation of very high horsepower builds.

We have also made improvements to boost control with 2.0L Speed Density. It is no longer necessary to move away from factory ECU boost control at higher boost levels. New internal changes allow targeting up to 49 psig of boost. We have also incorporated all-new per gear boost targets and wastegate duty compensations, allowing for more precise control of boost in each gear. These new per gear compensations are also compatible with 6-speed transmission swaps, allowing for individual manipulation of boost control in each of the 6 gears.

Tuning aftermarket injectors with COBB 2.0L Speed Density could not be easier. The “Fuel Injector Scale”, “Fuel Injector Latency”, and “Tip-in Enrichment” tables can now be tuned via real-time with COBB 2.0L Speed Density, enabling you to quickly dial in your injector tune. An all-new real-time “Fuel Injector Latency Adder” table allows for tweaking of idle and low load behavior for large aftermarket injectors, resulting in more refined operation during these conditions.

Tuning for aftermarket MAP and IAT sensors is also improved with COBB 2.0L Speed Density. Changes have been made to allow for the full calibration necessary to tune for any Subaru compatible aftermarket MAP and IAT sensors.

Proven Performance
COBB Tuning’s Speed Density for Subarus has already proven capable of tuning big-power Subaru engines. The LIC Motorsports 2004 Subaru STI Time Attack race car claimed the Modified AWD class victory and set a new Modified AWD class record at the Infineon Raceway Global Time Attack 2011 season finale using the AccessPORT and Speed Density tuning. Speed Density Availability
This initial release of Speed Density is available for professional tuning shops using AccessTUNER Pro software and for self-tuners using AccessTUNER Race software for the 2002-2005 Subaru WRX.. “Off-The-Shelf” maps will not be made available for Speed Density as custom calibration specific to each vehicle is required.

To have your vehicle tuned using Speed Density logic, simply follow these steps:

  • Contact your preferred Pro TUNER, confirm they have the latest 2.0L Speed Density enabled AccessTUNER Pro software (1.9.1.0-4704) and schedule a Speed Density dyno-tune appointment with them

  • Update your AccessTUNER Race software to the latest version (1.9.1.0-4716) to acquire 2.0L Speed Density functionality.

COBB Adjustable Internal Wastegate Bracket

COBB Tuning is proud to announce the availability of an innovative new pair of Internal Wastegate (IWG) Brackets for Subaru and MAZDASPEED vehicles in short and long bracket styles. The COBB Tuning Adjustable IWG Bracket is the first of its kind, and the most versatile and reliable way to keep a turbocharger’s internal wastegate closed when using an external wastegate setup. The Adjustable IWG Bracket can be installed quickly, adjusted for perfect fitment on many different turbos, and can be removed just as easily to return a turbo to its original configuration.

The COBB Adjustable IWG Bracket replaces the internal wastegate actuator and locks the wastegate in a fully closed position. This is a superior solution to welding the wastegate door closed, which is a time-consuming, expensive and irreversible process. The COBB Adjustable IWG Bracket is easy to install and bolts into place and adjusts quickly using simple hand tools.

Not all turbos are made exactly the same, and there can be variations in housings, center cartridges, clocking, etc. A single position internal wastegate bracket may not accommodate these variations and fail to close the wastegate completely, which will result in poor turbo response and lower maximum boost. The COBB Adjustable IWG Bracket takes the worry of turbo-component variance out of the equation and allows proper adjustment, every time, on a variety of different turbos that a non-adjustable internal wastegate bracket simply cannot match.

The COBB Adjustable IWG Bracket’s advantage lies in its unique adjustable rod-end linkage. The turnbuckle center section features right-hand and left-hand threads to make adjustment as easy as rotating it one direction or the other to shorten or lengthen it. The rod-end linkage and through-bolt allow high misalignment for maximum adjustability. The bracket itself is made from a single piece of 11-Gauge steel and incorporates slotted bolt holes for additional adjustability and turbo compatibility. The custom spade-bolt that connects to the wastegate arm, the bracket, and the turnbuckle are black zinc coated for an attractive finish that is corrosion resistant. All hardware for install is included in this kit.

NASIOC Top Scoob 029: Matt Kincaid’s 9 Second WRX

Top Scoob is an occasional themed contest on NASIOC Forum where users vote for their favorite cars. NASIOC’s Top Scoob 029 for Christmas and the Quarter Mile saw several very fast and great looking Subarus competing for the top spot. When the dust settled, Matt Kincaid’s 9 second bugeye WRX finished on top, just like it does at most events in the Pacific North West. Matt bought the car brand new in 2001 and reached his first goal of a 10 second pass in full street trim by 2009. With help from COBB Tuning Surgeline, the car was prepped for a season full of 9 second passes in 2011. COBB Tuning MAF Block-Off Plates

The COBB Tuning MAF Block-Off Plate Kit is the perfect complement to Speed Density tuning. Speed Density tuned vehicles use a Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor to monitor the mass of ingested air instead of the OEM Mass Airflow (MAF) sensors, which means the MAF sensors can be removed from the intake tubes. Removing the MAF sensors eliminates points of restriction and turbulence in the intake tract, but can present additional issues if not done properly. The COBB Tuning MAF Block-Off Plates are the easiest way to safely delete the MAF sensors for optimal performance and enhanced engine bay appearance.

We start with billet 6061 T6 aluminum and CNC-machine a plate/plug to seal off the openings left when the MAF sensors are removed. The plug has two unique features that are key to reliable performance. The first is an O-ring that tightly seals the Block-Off Plate to the MAF sensor opening, preventing unfiltered air from entering the intake tract. The second feature is the shape of the plug face, which is sculpted to exactly match the inside curve of the MAF tube. When seated, the plug completey fills the MAF sensor opening and the face sits flush with the inside of the MAF tube. This provides smooth, uninterrupted walls that prevent turbulence.

The COBB MAF Block-Off Plates are hard anodized in black for a durable, corrosion resistant finish. The Block-Off Plates then go back on the CNC mill for a final pass to have the COBB logo machined into their top faces. The kits are finished off with stainless steel button-head screws and black nylon washers that give the plates a professional appearance when installed. The COBB MAF Block-Off Plate Kits work with stock intakes, COBB SF Intakes, and any direct replacement intake with an inner diameter similar to stock.

COBB Tuning 3-Port Boost Control Solenoid

COBB Tuning is proud to announce the immediate availability of the COBB Tuning 3-Port Boost Control Solenoid (BCS) for turbocharged Subaru, Mazda and Mitsubishi applications. The COBB 3-Port Boost Solenoid is an excellent upgrade for modern turbocharged vehicles, enabling precise boost control in a tidy package that is easy to install and tune. Our BCS will eliminate boost fluctuations and boost creep inherent in OEM boost control systems, providing the necessary stable and repeatable boost control required for accurate tuning and consistent performance. The COBB BCS is equally capable of providing stable boost control at stock boost levels as well as extremely high boost levels associated with big-power builds, with an operating range of up to 120psi.

The COBB Tuning 3-Port BCS features 1/8″ low-profile barb fittings to keep the unit compact, and are nickel coated for corrosion resistance. Optional 1/4″ nickel plated fittings are also available separately. Viton spools and seals are used throughout for long life and lubricated with Dow Corning silicone grease. The manual override port is sealed with an O-ring, the wiring harness is sealed to the casing using a waterproof grommet and the solenoid wires are ultrasonically welded to the coil, making the device waterproof and safe to wash.

COBB Tuning has made the COBB 3-Port BCS installation as simple as possible. It mounts in the stock location and plugs directly into the stock wiring harness, making the physical install and electrical connection as straightforward possible. The BCS comes with a custom aluminum mounting bracket, stainless steel hardware, the necessary boost-line to complete all connections and zip-ties to route the boost-line neatly through the engine bay. The install instructions are easy to understand, with photographs and illustrations to guide you through the installation process, and include routing instructions for both internal and external wastegate configurations.
