2008 and 2010 USDM EVO X AccessPORT users can now download revised Off the Shelf (OTS) Calibrations that resolve the “erratic idle” issue on all USDM EVO X models.
The new v1.07 mapping is currently available on the EVO X OTS Map Download page only. A firmware update with these calibrations included will be available soon. There is no firmware updated needed to immediately utilize the new v1.07 calibration.
A new version of AccessTUNER Race will also be released shortly. All maps created with the current version of AccessTUNER Race are subject to the erratic idle issue and will need to be rebuilt once the new version of AccessTUNER is available.
All questions, comments and concerns can be directed to calibration@cobbtuning.com or you can reach us by phone at 801-713-0035.

COBB Tuning announces the immediate availability of the 3” FP Turbo Inlet Hose for the Mitsubishi EVO X. The COBB Tuning 3” FP Turbo Inlet Hose is designed for use with Forced Performance 3″ turbo compressor inlets. The bulge design of the COBB Inlet Hose increases the cross-section to 3.5” to maximize air flow delivered directly to your 3″ Forced Performance turbocharger, providing much more efficient power and response. The smooth inner walls of the COBB Turbo Inlet taper gradually at both ends and reduce the air turbulence that occurs in the factory accordion style inlet.
The COBB 3” FP Turbo Inlet Hose is constructed using four plies steel-reinforced silicone, eliminating the issue of hose collapse that other inlet pipes suffer while under suction at peak demand. While the steel reinforcement provides excellent stability, the silicone allows adequate torsional flex, allowing engine movement on the OEM engine mounts under hard acceleration without risk of separation.
Available in COBB Blue or Stealth Black, this system uses all factory fittings and clamps.

The season opener of the Redline Time Attack series, held at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, kicked off to a very eventful weekend! With a test and tune session held on Friday, practice sessions held all day Saturday, and two rounds of practice on Sunday, crews had their hands busy making adjustments to their vehicles to make the quickest times. HB Speed’s Jon Drenas and Danny Heng were still unsure if the team would compete as the 2008 Mitsubishi Evolution X was still strapped onto the dyno finishing up a tune on Thursday night! With the help of their COBB Tuning Accessport, the team squeezed every little bit of additional power from their Forced Performance “Red” turbo-charger, a tubular exhaust manifold from CBRD Speed Factory and new Deatschwerks 1500cc injectors! Wrapping the tune up that night, the decision was made to run in the season opener early Friday morning via text message.
The team was forced to make significant changes to their suspension setup due to the new minimum ride height rules. To further complicate matters, the splitter shed some parts on the drive up from LA to the track. Jon was able to fabricate new mounting hardware at the COBB Motorsports trailer, track side! Jon also discovered that their cat-pipe had fouled during practice. Once again, a quick track side fix enabled them in install a replacement, but smaller, catalytic converter and get the car back out on track.
Knowing that there was a significant power loss from the modified cat pipe, Jon went for it. The first lap came in at 1.58:1, leading in to a very competitive race against the clock. Jon decided the new ride height could easily handle a little dirt/rally action during the third lap while passing COBB Tuning’s Cameron Benner, and despite kicking up a dust cloud and having his teammates skip a few heart beats, pulled away from the cloud and still managed to bring in a lap time of 1.59:8! Exciting racing, capped off by an exciting weekend! HB Speed and Jon secured the lap time of 1.58:1 and used that to finish in 2nd place in the Street Tire AWD class! Proving once again that AccessPORT-tuned vehicles are motorsports-grade. Steven Ruiz, driver of the StopTech Mitsubishi Evo X placed 1st with a time of 1.57:5 and Cameron Benner, driver of the Cobb Tuning Motorsports Subaru STi placed 3rd with a time of 1.58:9.

The 2010 SCCA SOLO National Tour came to Mineral Wells, TX and COBB Tuning Plano was there to talk to and take on fellow enthusiasts and competitors. COBB Tuning employees Rob Irish and Jon Pomrenke competed in the hotly contested STU class and finished 2nd and 4th respectively in their AccessPORT powered Subaru STI while Chris Fleming took on the SM class in his AccessPORT equipped Mitsubishi EVO X and took home 3rd place. Our 2010 MAZDASPEED3 test mule was also out running as “sweep”, and everyone who had a chance to experience the new “Speed” seemed impressed with the little hotrod.
COBB Tuning soon became the “go to” guys for race fuel as Rob and Jon had carted their supply of the race juice down from Utah. COBB Tuning Plano awarded free alignments to all 1st place street tire class winners and capped off the Saturday night social with a BBQ dinner for all 200+ competitors and national staff.
Look for more “COBB Guys” at future national tour events as Rob and Jon continue to campaign their STI for top honors in national SCCA Solo 1 Autocross!

Not only is Jon Drenas, head tuner and owner of HB Speed in Fountain Valley, Calif., one of the most respected ProTuners in the country, but he also campaigns his 2008 EVO X in the Redline Time Attack Series. Frequent readers of our blog have no doubt seen Jon’s recent exploits behind the wheel and know him to be a competent driver as well as tuner. Despite mechanical issues, Jon was able to post some respectable lap times and find himself back on the podium for the last round of the Redline series.
“The car ran in the Redline Time Attack Series in Street AWD this year and showed that it could be very competitive with minimal modifications,” said Jon. “I also ran in the Super Lap Battle Finals where it came in 2nd Place in Street AWD, 0.350-seconds behind Tarzan Yamada in a race car with street tires and 0.069-seconds ahead of the Stoptech EVO X. The (HB Speed) EVO X is definitely not prepared as well as either of these cars as it has a full interior, stock seats and belts, and was driven to and from the event.”
“At California Speedway we had the turbo oil feed line break on Saturday,” said Jon. “I trailered the car back to the shop and replaced it. We came back and on Sunday (my 6th through 11th laps EVER at California Speedway) I ran a 1.55.173. The car did not feel right so I called it a day and headed over to my GT-R clients.”
Despite Jon spending more of the day tuning other cars at the event than racing, he still managed a solid 3rd place in a car with a full interior. Look for Jon to be back next year and attacking the track with more intensity.

At COBB Tuning, we like to go fast. We like it even more when tuners and race teams use the tools that we create to increase the performance of their racecars in head to head competition! In an effort to showcase AccessPORT tuners and teams who use their AccessPORTs to get around the track faster than everybody else, we bring you the AccessPORT Racer Spotlight!
The last round of the Redline Time Attack at California Speedway in Fontana, Calif., saw some fierce competition at all levels. While the big budgets and huge horsepower of the Unlimited Class wow the crowd with their outright speed, the compeition in the Street Class is fierce and close as the cars are closer in specification, and the drivers are ravenous for first place.
Stephen Ruiz in the GMG Racing, Stoptech EVO X GSR, was continually near the top of the podium this year. His 2008 GSR runs in the S-Street AWD Class, which is a sort of “modified†street class. Stephen not only drives this car, but he is also a COBB Tuning ProTuner. After finishing third at the Superlap Battle at WillowSprings and suffering mechanical issues with his clutches and wastegate in his direct bolt on Garrett 3076 turbocharger, the team was eager to get back on track and prove their mettle. “After superlap battle where we finished 3rd in the AWD class, we spent Thursday and Friday putting the car back together,†said Stephen. “ We got done around 11pm and headed for the track. During the the first morning practice session, we were sitting in 1st but got edged out at the last minute by Reese tuning in their EVO 9.â€
For the rest of the weekend, the team concentrated on suspension setup and tire pressures and tried to chase down the EVO 9 which was running a bigger turbo and a bit more power, which can be key at California Speedway’s high-speed oval section. “We just did suspension tuning and tire pressures and did a very good 1:49,†said Stephen.â€That was good enough for second and we are happy with that. The car ran 25-minute practice sessions without issues. No changes to the tune were needed. We did not touch the motor, just checked datalog info and everything was cool.â€
Steve and the team will be back next year to contest both SuperLap Battle and Redline Time Attack. Contact GMG Racing for details on race preparation and tuning for your own track or street car.
