EVO X AccessPORT users can now update their AccessTUNER Race software and AccessPORT firmware to take advantage of the newest releases for the EVOX.
This latest AccessTUNER software update includes Pass-Through tuning. Users now have the ability to connect their computer to the ECU through the AccessPORT, eliminating the need to move the calibration from the PC to the AccessPORT, then switch cables and flash the new map to the ECU with the AccessPORT. The tuning workflow is greatly simplified, allowing for quicker tuning with less hassle.
Support has been added to the 2008 JDM EVO X SST and these vehicles can now be tuned with AccessTUNER Race. Starting with the OEM calibration, overseas tuners now have the ability to tune the 2008 JDM EVO X SST with the same control and access to the ECU previously only available to USDM vehicles.
Additional improvements to the software include a data logging enhancement which eliminates the issue of duplicate data entries as well as a bug fix that resolves the idle air tables issues.
This software upgrade also reflects the latest changes to the v1.07 Off the Shelf maps (released on 08/03/10) that fix the idle issue present on previous versions of the OTS maps. All maps made with previous versions of AccessTUNER Race will need to be updated with this revised software.
To update to the latest version of firmware, simply plug the AccessPORT into a PC and run AccessPORT Updater. Visit the AccessTUNER Race Request Page to get the latest version of the software.
This update is available now! Head over to COBB Tuning.com for more information, call us at 801-713-0035 or email us at tech@cobbtuning.com.

Check out Drivingsports.com’s exposé on COBB Tuning’s top tuner, Tim Bailey, and his Nissan GT-R. Along with COBB Tuning ECU Wizards Joe Graham and John “Thistle” Banks, Tim is the man behind testing many of the performance upgrades available for the GT-R market, using his own car as the test mule for COBB’s Godzilla enhancements. Whenever Joe and John take apart a line of code that unlocks more features for your GT-R AccessPORT, Tim straps his car to the dyno for more testing and tuning.
The result is this E85-powered monster with just under 600whp on tap, almost 200hp more than stock! The secret is a custom fuel system that allows Tim to run the high-octane corn fuel. But what is all that power good for if you can’t have fun with it. To that end, Tim gave in to the archaic NHRA rules and bolted a custom cage into his supercar so he could post 10-second drag runs all day without fear of being snubbed by the tech inspectors.

COBB Tuning is proud to announce new updates to Nissan GT-R AccessPORT firmware and Off-the-Shelf (OTS) maps that allow gear and throttle position dependent boost control! This new “throttle and gear wastegate multiplier” effectively allows the user to limit boost onset for a given throttle position. These new features will help users prevent mid-corner snap oversteer from boost onset, even though the car is at part-throttle.
This throttle position-dependent traction control will allow drivers to apply power more smoothly, reducing sudden loss of traction due to rapid turbo spool for more effective throttle modulation. This is particularly effective for part-throttle modulation during cornering.
Both firmware and OTS calibrations have been updated to utilize this new feature. Users with older firmware and maps must update their AccessPORT and calibrations to install this new feature. Vehicles with Protuned maps must be updated by your tuner.
Gear and Throttle Wastegate Multiplier:
The gear and throttle wastegate multiplier is a gear and throttle position-dependent boost control strategy that behaves like traction control. However, instead of using the brakes and other conventional drivetrain-based methods to limit wheel spin, the ECU alters wastegate duty cycle to limit turbo spool. This in turn limits toque and power output effectively limiting low-end torque and wheel spin.
The COBB Tuning OTS maps are designed to limit full boost at part throttle for better power modulation at half throttle. However, these new tables allow for both gear AND throttle dependent boost control so that boost can be limited both by gear selection and throttle position to suit the user’s driving style.
FEATURES AND UPDATES
New Base Maps
Refined boost control based on gear and throttle position (control over tire traction in lower gears).
AccessTuner PRO
To obtain AccessTUNER PRO visit the GT-R AccessTUNER Pro Product Page
Version: 1.8.4.0-13522
New Features: Added Gear and TPS boost table multiplier.
New Tuning Guide
New Vehicle Support:
Pass-Through Tuning
Improved tuner workflow by by-passing the necessity to use AP Manager (Connect the AP to PC via usb cable and AP to car via OBD cable). Allow the AP to boot to main menu (AP must be in main menu in order for any pass-through tuning to work, AP will show a busy-screen when in Pass-Through Mode.
Flash Map
Pass-Through tuning removes the necessity of having to use AP Manager to transfer maps during tuning. This allows tuners to connect their AccessPORT to the PC and car simultaneously and allow for map flashing and map transfer without having to use additional tools outside of tuner.
Important Notes
Please make sure your AccessPORT is updated to version 1.6.1.0-13514 for compatibility with new OTS maps and new Pro Tuner software. Instructions for updating your firmware can be found on the Nissan GT-R AccessPORT Firmware Page.

COBB Tuning is proud to announce updates to the MAZDASPEED AccessTUNER engine management software and Off-The-Shelf maps that remove the Load Cap roadblock to producing prodigious amounts of horsepower and torque while still providing all of the sophistication and safety inherent in the stock ECU.
COBB Tuning continues to push the envelope in stock ECU engine management control by removing the “load cap” that has prevented enthusiasts from achieving maximum gains from larger than stock turbochargers. Through ongoing ECU discovery, software development and internal and external testing, COBB Tuning has created a tunable solution to alter the load cap parameters, allowing Professional and Enthusiast tuners to break through the 400whp barrier within the stock ECU!
An all-new version of AccessTUNER is now available for download from COBBTuning.com and features this new “load cap” removal as well as other new features that simplify and speed up the tuning workflow.
CALCULATED LOAD MAX
Max Load adjustment tuning has been added into AccessTUNER Race and Pro to compensate for how much air (gram/cyl) the ECU will recognize. This is a critical parameter for higher HP applications due to the fact that the ECU is not able to properly calculate fuel requirements when demand exceeds the load cap. If the load cap is set too low, a lean condition occurs, getting worse as the delta of actual load goes further beyond the load cap.
COBB Tuning has added two new tables to AccessTUNER, called Calc Load Max A and Calc Load Max B. These are RPM referenced tables with a value that presents a max allowed value for the airflow portion of the Calc Load. Altering these tables effectively allows the tuner to increase the maximum load values allowing for more airflow and proper fueling.
NEW FEATURES
COBB Tuning’s AccessTUNER engine management software for the MAZDASPEED now includes pass-through tuning, which allows the user to flash maps from a laptop computer directly to the ECU. All AccessPORT users can now switch their AccessPORT to “pass through” mode to directly interface with the ECU from their laptop. This also allows users to view live ECU data and Datalog directly to their laptop. Users can set and view live ECU data parameters from their laptop for seamless data viewing and acquisition.
UPDATED OTS MAPS
COBB Tuning has also released updated Off-the-Shelf (OTS) maps with the load cap removed and these are available for download from our AccessPORT Map Database. All OTS maps have been upreved to v1.05 for MAZDASPEED3 and v1.07 for MAZDASPEED6. These new maps are also bundled with the latest firmware update, allowing users to update their OTS maps through a firmware update using AccessPORT Updater.
COBB Tuning continues to be an innovator in the MAZDASPEED tuning community with ever more powerful tuning solutions and features that allow MAZDASPEED enthusiasts to get the most out of their vehicles while retaining the advanced logic, sophistication and safety of the factory ECU.

Chris Billedo has been racing in the Redline Time Attack series since the first round at Buttonwillow, but just recently upgraded his Civic Si with an AccessPORT from COBB Tuning joining the illustrious ranks of AccessPORT Racers. This of course, garners him a coveted, AccessPORT Racer Spotlight! At Just 19-years-old, Chris is the youngest driver in the Redline Time Attack series, but is taking on the track nevertheless! Chris is competing in the Enthusiast FWD class and is proving to be a force to be reckoned with. Chris placed 2nd in his Si with a lap time of 2:04.226, almost 12-seconds ahead of 3rd place and just 4-seconds off of 1st!
Driving at Auto Club Speedway was a very fun experience for me, I’ve never been to such a fast track that required so much braking. I ran both days, Saturday and Sunday; Saturday being the practice day similar to an HPDE event and Sunday being the actual competition. Since I’ve never been to this track, I thought it would be a smart idea to sign up for the practice day. The practice day went very well; of course since it’s my first time here I took it very easy. As I started to get comfortable I picked up my speed around the track, especially around the high banks of Auto Club Speedway.
Racing is a never ending learning-experience and since I’m also the youngest in the series; I still have a lot to learn. I ran at Buttonwillow Raceway and Las Vegas Motorspeedway and thought I learned all I needed to learn. But at Auto Club, I experienced something I’ve never felt before. I was always taught that if you do your braking in a straight line, it will “all be good”. At Auto Club, the speeds are very fast and I’ve never experienced the car getting loose while braking. I think it has to do more in part with how fast I was going and also not having any aero enhancements. Due to the rules and specifications in Enthusiast class, you can’t run any carbon fiber, splitters, wings or anything to help with down force. Throughout the day I got used to how the car would brake so I didn’t worry about that anymore, but it sure was something I’ve never experienced.
I didn’t change much on the car for this race, but I added one major component that made the biggest difference: tuning my ECU with an AccessPORT from COBB Tuning. This made a dramatic difference. The car was tuned by Steve at e-tunez.com. He guided me through capturing datalogs and uploading maps to the car. One of the major differences on the new tune was the VTEC engagement point. Stock, VTEC kicks in at 5,600 rpm, but with the AccessPORT it was brought down to 4,500 rpm and red line raised to 8,600 from 8,200 rpm. Lowering VTEC allows the car to pull from lower in the RPM range which in theory would make the car faster.
Another area that the AccessPORT addressed was the “Rev Hang” experienced by many Si drivers where the drive by wire throttle keeps the revs up between shifts, making smooth and fast shifting difficult. But the AccessPORT eliminated this and made the throttle pedal very responsive. Lap times at Auto Club Speedway are highly dependent on how fast you are on the very long straights and banks of the track. I believe that the AccessPORT is the reason why I was able to take 2nd place in Fontana. The car was very responsive, whereas without the AccessPORT, the car felt very sluggish.
My racing program would not be possible without the help and support of all my sponsors including COBB Tuning. Not only did they provide me with an AccessPORT but they helped with track-side support and advice to help me better my skills as a driver also! This was my first race as a COBB Tuning Racer and I’m glad I am.
I am now 2nd in points for the Enthusiast FWD championship and I can’t wait for what else to come at future races!

The COBB Tuning Motorsports team dominated Round 4 of the Redline Time Attack series at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California, taking 1st in Super Modified AWD, 1st in Modified AWD, 1st in Street Tire AWD and capturing the Overall Event Win. The Super Session wheel-to-wheel race was an exciting inter-class battle and saw the Nissan GT-R win overall in Modified trim and the STI take the Street Tire class win. In addition to bringing home maximum points, Brian Lock set a new track record for a Modified Class car at Auto Club Speedway in the GT-R with a lap time of 1:43.072.
In a bid to appease the “Racing Gods,” the team showed up sporting COBB-blue hair-dos, but the success of the weekend was a direct result of the long hours and tireless effort put in by the talented and dedicated guys that make up the COBB Tuning Motorsports crew. The team took advantage of the month-long break between events and made significant changes to all three race cars in an effort to maximize performance and reliability, ultimately setting the team up to race hard for the remainder of the season.
The Nissan GT-R was treated to a complete engine rebuild with upgraded rods and pistons to better cope with the nearly 1,000 crank HP being produced. The Subaru STI went under the knife having a new custom safety cage fabricated from scratch and the transmission rebuilt while the Cosworth engine was sent home for a refresh and new Cosworth intake manifold added. The Nissan 370Z received a new set of rear springs to reduce excessive corner-exit oversteer. Finally, all three cars had OS Giken limited-slip differentials installed (GT-R front, STI & 370Z rear) to better get the AccessPORT tuned power down on the track where it belongs.
The extensive hours of hard-work paid off in spades as the team racked up its most successful weekend to date in the Redline Time Attack. Brian Lock in the Nissan GT-R screamed past the competition to take the Modified Class win and set a new track record of 1:43.072 in the process. After setting the new record, the GT-R visited pit lane to receive a new set of Yokohama A005 racing slicks before heading right back out on track to battle it out in the Super Modified class. The added grip of the Yokohama slicks dropped the GT-R’s lap time to a 1:39.730, fast enough to take the win in the Super Modified class and clinch the team’s second Overall event win!

In the Street Tire AWD Class, Cameron Benner was on a mission to grab the 1st place position that had so far eluded him. The revitalized Subaru STI proved to be the perfect tool for the job as Cameron charged ahead the rest of the Street Class field, taking a decisive first win with a 3-second lead over his closest competitor!

Gary Sheehan subbed in for an ill-feeling Trey Cobb to take on the Nissan 370Z driving duties. Although Gary was ineligible to compete in the Enthusiast Class, the event presented an opportunity to see how the suspension and driveline changes affected the performance of the little Z, and they proved to be quite effective. The COBB 370Z turned a time just 0.5 seconds shy of the Enthusiast RWD class winning lap in the final Time Attack session, and also revealed a few simple areas of improvement that, once addressed, should make it a serious class contender.

The wheel-to-wheel Super Session turned out to be an exciting inter-class battle that once again showed that solid preparation, nerves of steel and blue hair will take the day. Brian Lock ran the Nissan GT-R in Modified trim with R-compound tires and gapped the field to take the overall win and much-needed Modified class championship points. Cameron Benner had a great drive in his Street Tire Class STI, battling with Modified class cars on the way to his class win and 4th place overall, adding to his impressive championship lead.
The Takata Time Attack/LIC Motorsports STI, had a strong showing this weekend, taking 2nd place in the Modified AWD Class with a 01:45.923 lap time and 2nd place in class in the Super Session . This car runs a COBB AccessPORT and was tuned at COBB Tuning Surgeline in Portland, Oregon. The LIC Motorsports team continues to show what quality preparation and great tuning can do as they consistently field the fastest Modified Class Subaru in the series and currently lead the Modified Class championship.
Jon Drenas showed what a lightly modified Mitsubishi EVO X can do by finishing in 2nd place in the AWD Street Class. Jon arrived at the track late in the event and laid down a 1:52.702 lap with almost no practice time in his HB Speed-tuned AccessPORT EVO X. Jon and his EVO X is a force to be reckoned with on the West Coast and has proven that you can drive your race car to the track, race it all weekend, and drive back home with a trophy in the passenger seat.
Chris Billedo drove his AccessPORT equipped Honda Civic Si to the sharp end of the Enthusiast FWD class with a solid 2nd place finish, continuing his streak of podium finishes and setting himself up for an impressive Redline Time Attack championship result.
The COBB Tuning Motorsports Team next heads to Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, Illinois for Round 5 on June 12th where they look to extend their East Coast Championship leads in the Modified and Street Tire classes.

Two EVO X GSR’s, Two friends, Similar setups, different sets of cams, different downpipes, 875 combined wheel horsepower, one tuning shop.
In February, COBB Tuning Plano tuned James Stearns’ EVO X GSR running a Forced Performance “Red” turbocharger, it made good power gains over the stock turbo, but we knew the car had so much more potential. A set of good camshafts would be needed to make the car work with the bigger turbo more efficiently. A set of Kelford 214b cams were ordered knowing that they would do just the trick!
Not to be outdone by his good friend, James, Dustin Nelson decided to step it up and purchase a FP Red for his EVO X as well. Duston also upgraded to the COBB SS Downpipe and decided on the Cosworth MX-1 camshafts.

Both agreed to come drive up from the Bayou of southern Louisiana and drop off their cars for a few days, anticipating some very impressive gains. James started with 377whp and 361ft-lbs of torque, while Dustin’s car weighed-in with 331whp 378ft/lbs. After the installations, James was first up on the dyno and netted a gain of 57whp and 34 ft/lbs making this car the most powerful EVO X at COBB’s facilities in Plano at 434WHP and 395WTQ at 27psi on 93 octane gasoline!
That record would be short lived though, as 26 hours later, COBB Tuning Plano’s lead tuner, Calvin Dotson, made 441WHP and 393WTQ on the same boost pressure of 27 psi and on 93 octane out of Dustin’s Octane Blue Pearl EVO. This set a new bar of power achievement on any EVO X in COBB’s dyno database and netted 110whp over his previous setup!
Congratulations to these two guys, we bet the drive back home was incredible!

COBB Tuning has just released an AccessPORT firmware update for the 2004-2007 STI, 2006-2007 Subaru WRX, 2004-2006 Forester XT and 2005-2006 Legacy GT (AP-SUB-002). This update repairs a minor bugs with the AccessPORT, adds new functions and streamlines the menu screens. This update supports v2 and v2b units, meaning that both versions use the same firmware release: 1.6.0.0-12852. In addition, all “BETA” versions have been consolidated into this update. The bug fix in this release resolves the AP slowdown associated with extensive use.
URGENT – Resolves the AccessPORT slowdown associated with extensive use, which can eventually render the AccessPORT non-functional, requiring it to be sent to COBB Tuning for repair.
The “About” screen on both v2 and v2b has been simplified for easier interpretation and support and the “Change Map” feature has been updated for both units to give an explanation for any greyed-out “locked-out” maps.
This update is available immediately through AccessPORT Updater and requires no other updates to maps or tuning software be performed. Further information can be found on our Firmware Information Page.
