COBB Tuning Plano Makes Big Power 2008 WRX with E85 Fuel

While the debate about alternative fuel sources, reliance on foreign oil and fuel source versus fuel source for bio fuels rages, the availability of E85 should make power junkies smile. The 85% blend of ethanol and 15% gasoline is the equivalent of 105 octane, that’s like having race fuel available at the pump, and you get to be environmentally friendly too!
Recently, Cobb Tuning, Plano head tuner, Calvin Dotson, tuned a Stage 4 WRX with this eco fuel for some very impressive power. Equipped with a 20G turbocharger, Deatschwerk 850cc injectors, Grimmspeed TGV deletes, ported exhaust manifold and external wastegate setup and tuned on an AccessPORT, the car made 420whp and 407wtq.
Keep in mind that because E85 is a lighter fuel than gasoline with about a third less potential energy, more fuel has to be injected into the combustion chamber, this requires larger injectors and a high-capacity fuel pump, not to mention custom tuning to run the E85 blend. However, at around $2 a gallon, it is an attractive alternative to traditional racing type fuels which can be very expensive, over $8 a gallon in some cases!
