AccessPORT-Tuned GT-R makes 800HP!

Posted by Travis on 31 Aug 2009 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

Everyone knows that the Nissan GT-R is already a very powerful car, but what happens when you add larger turbos from Switzer and the power of complete access to the factory ECU with the COBB Tuning AccessPORT? HUGE POWER!

Switzer’s newest big turbo package for the GT-R makes around 800bhp and 820lb/ft of torque thanks to a pair of Switzer turbochargers. The car comes pre-tuned with a COBB Tuning AccessPORT for both pump and race fuel for even more performance.

Along with the larger turbos, the kit also comes with an upgraded thermostat, larger “Monster” intercoolers, a larger, dual core radiator and other upgrades. The price? Just under $21,000. For more details on the Switzer R850 Tuning package, visit the Switzer Homepage.

COBB Tuning Plano Makes Big Power 2008 WRX with E85 Fuel

2008 WRX E85

While the debate about alternative fuel sources, reliance on foreign oil and fuel source versus fuel source for bio fuels rages, the availability of E85 should make power junkies smile. The 85% blend of ethanol and 15% gasoline is the equivalent of 105 octane, that’s like having race fuel available at the pump, and you get to be environmentally friendly too!

Recently, Cobb Tuning, Plano head tuner, Calvin Dotson, tuned a Stage 4 WRX with this eco fuel for some very impressive power. Equipped with a 20G turbocharger, Deatschwerk 850cc injectors, Grimmspeed TGV deletes, ported exhaust manifold and external wastegate setup and tuned on an AccessPORT, the car made 420whp and 407wtq.

Keep in mind that because E85 is a lighter fuel than gasoline with about a third less potential energy, more fuel has to be injected into the combustion chamber, this requires larger injectors and a high-capacity fuel pump, not to mention custom tuning to run the E85 blend. However, at around $2 a gallon, it is an attractive alternative to traditional racing type fuels which can be very expensive, over $8 a gallon in some cases!

Contact your local COBB AccessPORT ProTuner to access the potential of E85 in your car.

AccessPORT Tuned MAZDASPEED6 is Fast at the Strip

Pannone’s AccessPORT Equipped MS6 Pulls Fastest Recorded MS6 Quarter Mile Time!

ms6slipsweb.jpgEveryone knows how easy it is to use the AccessPORT to increase horsepower and improve performance, but sometimes just what that increase will be is a little unclear. Here is a real-world result on just what a powerful tuning tool the COBB Tuning AccessPORT can be. Recently, Anthony Pannone ran his AccessPORT-tuned MAZDASPEED6 at Atco Raceway in New Jersey to record the fastest ever known drag run by a MAZDASPEED6! Anthony was able to run past the trap in 12.9-seconds at 106.7mph! This was done with an E-Tune calibrated by COBB Tuning’s very own Christian Krahenbuhl.

“I bought my MAZDASPEED6 in February of 2007,” said Anthony. “It was my first performance car as I had come from an automatic four door sedan that carried the “all show, no go” label. All of the modifications of my previous car were sound and visual upgrades because performance parts were few and far between. I quickly got bit by the “mod bug” and started buying performance parts for my MS6. I started with the usual first parts such as a cold air intake and cat-back exhaust. Soon it was time to upgrade to a downpipe and front mount intercooler for better flow and cooling efficiency. At this point I realized that I needed a way to bring all of these parts together and get them to work in sync with each other.”

“The MS3 community had a tuning device I was very jealous of and when news about the AccessPORT’s availability for the MS6 I immediately sold the competitor’s product I had been using and purchased an AccessPORT from COBB Tuning. The car ran excellent in every way and the stutters and hiccups were a thing of the past.” Continue Reading »

HBSpeed Enters Their EVO X in Street Class Time Attack

Posted by Travis on 06 Aug 2009 | Tagged as: Announcements, General

hb-evo.jpgHBSpeed, respected tuners of all things Subaru, have joined into the Time Attack fray with a brand new Street Class Mitsubishi Evolution X. Sporting all wheel drive and a turbocharged, 2.0-liter engine, the EVO X is a capable and seriously quick performance machine. Right out of the box the EVO packs a potent punch of big horsepower and neutral handling. But if you want to be competitive in Time Attack, you can’t just show up to the track with any showroom stock car. You have to be armed with a little something extra.

Even though the street class mandates a full interior and that the cars remain more or less street cars, HBSpeed has added some serious performance modifications to give the already-powerful-EVO X even more go. The modifications are not overly exotic, but the car is still capable of putting down 400whp to the ground. This is done on a stock engine tuned with the COBB AccessPORT.

hbspeed_evox_03.jpgOther modifications include a COBB Intercooler hard pipe kit, COBB SF Intake system and COBB Turbo Inlet Tube. An ETS front mount keeps the intake charge cold and condensed. The stock turbo spits exhaust gasses out of a 3-inch turboback exhaust system.

Handling upgrades are essential to cope with all the extra power. To that end a set of KW coilovers were installed along with a set of 18-inch Enkei NT03+M wheels and Yokohama Neova tires, which help keep this muscular Evolution firmly planted around quick bends.

When this car isn’t leading the pack around the racetracks of Southern California, HBSpeed owner and head tuner John Drenas uses the car as his daily driver. That is the beauty of the street class; truly powerful and capable street cars can double as race cars on the weekend. All you need is a helmet on your head and a race map loaded on your AccessPORT.
