COBB EVO X Limited Edition 3″ SS Cat Back Exhaust

Posted by Gary on 30 Jul 2009 | Tagged as: Announcements, Product Updates

Presenting the COBB Limited Edition 3” SS Cat Back Exhaust for the Mistubishi EVO X. This direct replacement cat back exhaust boasts 304 stainless steel construction, a custom high-flow straight-through muffler design and impressive exhaust note. Limited to a production run of just 50 units, this beautifully fabricated exhaust will not be available for long.

Significant attention was devoted to the packaging of this exhaust. Tubing diameter was increased to 3″ and bends were kept to a minimum with large radii for optimum flow characteristics. Fitment was extensively worked to ensure maximum ground clearance to accommodate cars with very low ride heights. Designed as a direct replacement for the factory cat back exhaust, it uses all of the stock mounting points and is compatible with the factory cat pipe as well as the previously released COBB High Flow Cat Pipe.

The unique muffler in this exhaust is custom designed for this application and features an internal ”Y” to provide maximum straight through flow from a transversely mounted muffler. This design allows much higher flow rates than typical EVO X chambered transverse mufflers which significantly increase backpressure and limit total power output.

Potent performance need not attract the attention of over-zealous law enforcement. Despite the superior flow characteristics of the COBB EVO X Cat Back exhaust, it still conforms to strict SAE sound emission requirements of 95 decibels, even when paired with the COBB EVO X Downpipe and COBB EVO X Cat Pipe. The twin oval tips are positioned to mimic the factory set-up and follow the lines of the rear bumper cover, giving a purposeful yet subtle look.

The COBB Limited Edition 3″ SS Cat Back Exhaust for the EVO X offers unmatched performance, OEM fitment, innovative engineering, outstanding craftsmanship and 50-state legal sound compliance. This uncompromising cat back exhaust is now in stock at COBB Tuning (Salt Lake City, UT), COBB Tuning (Plano, TX), Surgeline Tuning (Portland, OR) and select authorized COBB Tuning Dealers, but only for a limited time.

Surgeline Tuning IT-E Racer Takes first at Portland Rose Cup!

Posted by Travis on 07 Jul 2009 | Tagged as: Events

Once again Surgeline Tuning and young driving ace, Cameraon Benner, have charge to the forefront of the Northwest Region SCCA IT-E class. The annual Rose Cup, held at Portland International Raceway, in Portland, Ore. is an extravaganza of SCCA club racing that brings together the most talented drivers on the West Coast for a weekend of fierce and competitive driving. We went into Rose Cup anticipating the presence of several hotshots from California, but they never showed. Without the threat of a 600+whp NSX, a win looked within reach,” said Cameron.Since the last outing, Cameron and Surgeline Tuning had done much to tweak Cameron’s car to make more power more reliably and to increase grip and improve overall handling.“Rose Cup weekend served as the proving ground for the suspension and wheel tweaks that we made since the May regional,” said Cameron. “The Hoosier R6’s took a bit of getting used to but once i got used to the grip, and learned to manage my left front tire throughout the race, the tires provided some awesomely consistent times. Paired with the adjustments to rebound and stiffer front springs, a functioning differential controller really allowed the car to rotate under trail braking.”In addition Cameron, with the advice of local racers, altered his line through crucial portions of the track to squeeze a few more seconds out of his car.“The new line allowed me to shave around 8/10’s off my previous best time,” said Cameron. “Going into the weekend my previous best time at PIR was a 1.25.5, by the end of Rose Cup my times were at lowest a 1.22.2 and consistently in the 1.23 range.”Keep in mind that the COBB GTR ran a similar time of around 1:22 at Subiefest2 held on the same track.

The race itself was a testament to the development that had gone into the 2006 STI racecar. The previous races Cameron struggled to keep pace with some of the other drivers and cars in his class, without increasing hosepower, Cameron was able to walk away from his compeitors putting two to three seconds a lap on second place.

What’t more, the Rose Cup has a much larger field than other races as well as a more diverse field. While the IT-E class features cars that run in the 1:23 range, the GT1 and Trans AM classes would be sharing the same session and some of these cars can dip below a 1:10 lap time. It would prove to be an exciting weekend indeed.

“I decided to use the larger field to my advantage,” said Cameron. “Many of the stock cars can’t run a hot lap until about three laps into the race because they must heat the tires. I picked off as many of them as i could to use as traffic between me and my competitors, a tactic that helped me secure a large gap initially. There were some issues with Intake temperatures early in the weekend, a problem that was solved when Tim retuned the car in the late night hours back at Surgeline.”

The result of all this tweaking was a poll position and 1st place in both of the weekend’s feature races. This gives Cameron a solid lead in the points for the season.

“The weekend was unfortunately capped off by an incident involving me and driver of the Blue Porsche 935, Monte Shelton,” said Cameron. “We connected in turn 8 as i was trying to overtake; i miss judged the line he was going to take and grazed his tire.”

Despite this, the damage was minimal and in no way hampered Cameron’s run to victory. The car is already back in fighting trim and Cameron is planning on doing more upgrades to make his car more competitive for Subiefest 4 set for late October.

AccessTUNER Custom Tuning Software for Nissan & Infinti

Posted by Gary on 02 Jul 2009 | Tagged as: AccessTUNER Pro, AccessTUNER Race, G35, G37

AccessTUNER allows custom tuning of Nissan and Infiniti ECUs to extract maximum power for virtually any performance modification, including forced induction. Engine tuners can create custom calibrations for vehicles equipped with aftermarket intakes, exhausts, cams, turbos, superchargers or any combination of performance modifications. The results are impressive gains in power and torque with all of the drive-ability and sophistication inherent in the OEM ECU.

AccessTUNER puts control of vital engine parameters into the hands of the tuner, such as intake cam advance, exhaust cam advance, fuel, ignition, knock, engine rev limiter, speed limiter and many more. Customizable data monitors let the tuner choose which channels are monitored to see how changes impact the behavior of the engine. The built-in data logging capability captures data from multiple channels across the entire rev-range, allowing detailed data analysis after a dynamometer test. 3-D graphical mapping gives the tuner a comprehensive view of engine behavior across three axis to evaluate where performance can be maximized. An integral dashboard shows the tuner-chosen gauges to be displayed during the tuning process.

AccessTUNER Pro is tuning software for professional tuning facilities. AccessTUNER Pro allows for unlimited tuning of any AccessPORT-equipped Nissan 370Z, Nissan 350Z, Infiniti G37 and Infiniti G35. The professional tuner can choose to lock the map in order to prevent unauthorized reproduction of the map or inappropriate use on other vehicles. Contact COBB Tuning Sales at 801-713-0443 or wholesale@cobbtuning.com for more information regarding acquiring a Nissan-Infiniti AccessTUNER Pro license.

Please contact Sales at 801-713-0443 or wholesale@cobbtuning.com for additional details. AccessTUNER Race Beta is self-tuning software for the end user. AccessTUNER Race has all of the tuning power of AccessTUNER Pro, but is married to a single AccessPORT. AccessTUNER Race Beta maps can be shared with other AccessTUNER Race Beta users. COBB Tuning Nissan-Infiniti Tuning Guides are designed to walk the user through the steps necessary to properly tune the ECU in a safe and straightforward manner. AccessTUNER Race Beta is free of charge to AccessPORT customers and can be downloaded by filling out the AccessTUNER Race Beta registration page.

COBB Tuning is dedicated to improving the AccessPORT line of products for Nissan and Infiniti enthusiasts. The release of AccessTUNER software is the first step in an intense program to bring COBB Tuning products to the forefront of the Nissan and Infiniti performance markets.
