Mazdaspeed3 : Another win x2!!!

Posted by Trey on 01 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: Events

This weekend at GT Live, we competed in the Redline Time Attack with our Mazdaspeed3. Once again, our own Eric Bizek was at the wheel and produced fantastic results.

As in previous events, we entered our daily driven Mazdaspeed3 in the Street class. This requires a street trim car with street tires. Many cars in this class are marginally street cars, but they are pushing the limits of the rules which is OK and to be expected. Our Mazdaspeed3 is truly a street car utilizing the parts that we sell. Our goal for this is to demonstrate what fellow MS3 owners could achieve using only our parts. We could go faster using some ‘race’ parts, but that doesn’t align with our goals…nor does it seem necessary.

Additionally, we decided to throw the MS3 into the higher class known as Modified. All we changed was our wheel/tire combo to qualify for that class. Our car is definitely not built to the extent of nearly all Modified class cars, but we wanted to see how it stood against stiffer competition.

Ultimately, we ended up with two 1st place finishes. We won the Street class by roughly 11 seconds, and the Modified class by nearly 2 seconds. In doing so, we continued the MS3’s torture of being completely beat on over and over. Not only has this poor car done over 1000 dyno pulls (yes, 1000…not 100 or 10), but it has been relentless Time Attacked, track driven, and daily driven since we purchased it nearly 2 years ago. This car is simply…amazing. Not only that (excuse what some may view as a marketing pitch), I don’t know anyone else that’s pushed this platform and their products to this extent. Believe me, it’s far less expensive to publish an engineering document than it is to push a car like this constantly… but our products (and car) have held up perfectly and we’ve learned things you just can’t experience in a controlled environment. This event was the FIRST TIME we’ve every had to actually work on it! Why? A power steering line to the rack worked itself loose. Nothing extraordinary.

This car continues to amaze. No surprise many of our staff regularly comment how impressed they are with it, and how they may soon consider purchasing one. Keep in mind folks, these same people have daily access to STIs, EVOs, and even a GT-R!! That’s no small compliment.

R35 GT-R Video : BBQ Event

Posted by Trey on 01 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: General

Right before GT Live, we hosted a BBQ at our facility. During this time, we needed to put some final touches on the tuning for our GT-R before the event. One of our very talented locals (get his contact info in the video) put together this wonderful video of the GT-R at the event. Enjoy!

GT Live – Utah 2008

Posted by Trey on 01 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: Events

This past weekend, GT Live rolled into town to host a motorsports festival at Miller Motorsports Park here in Utah. Once again, we were a major sponsor of the event and held a COBB car corral for fellow enthusiasts as well as hosting a Auto-x event with the help of our local SCCA chapter.

On display we had our G37 demo car, our 350Z, ‘08 STI, and EVO X. We also entered our R35 GT-R and Mazdaspeed3 in the Time Attack. Overall, the weekend was a great success and a LOT of fun. Thanks to everyone that came out — all the competitors, participants, and fans. It was really great to meet all of you!

I spent most of my day answering questions about the various cars, talking with fellow enthusiasts, making sure all things were in order, and enjoying my fair share of interviews (something I still struggle with). We also had our entire calibration (tuning) team on hand, with Christian, Tim and John assisting other teams using our track-side AWD chassis dyno. Josh, Eric, Billy, Dave and others helped keep the Time Attack cars in top condition, while Chris, Scott, Justin and more helped answer enthusiast’s questions about our products. Over on the auto-x course, we had Jon, Rob and others from the local SCCA chapter helping to keep things running smoothly. Even my brother, Ryan, came up from Texas to help out! At the end of the day, it was definitely a team effort and a successful one at that. Thank you all!

Below are a few random pictures from the event. I’ll update the blog more with some more specific information about various Time Attack results.

MS3 : Short Throw Shifter

Posted by Trey on 01 Jul 2008 | Tagged as: Products

I know I’m biased, but our new Mazdaspeed3 double adjustable short throw shifter is a work of art. Designed exclusively for the MS3’s 6-speed transmission, the shift knob height and shift throw are independently adjustable. Hats off to Dave, who led the design of this product and major kudos to all involved from concept to creation. These should be available for purchase some time next week!

100% designed and made in the USA.
