While out at the Performance Nissan event, Billy took the COBB GT-R out on the Auto-x course for a few runs. It was an extremely short and tight course, but it was still a lot of fun!

On the road again…
This past weekend Dave, Joe and Billy went to the Performance Nissan meet out in San Bernardino, CA. Many thanks to Andy and the rest of the Performance Nissan/MyNismo.com crew for hosting the event. It was a great time and a good opportunity to get to know more Nissan enthusiasts. Nissan even brought out one of their North American-spec GT-R test vehicles for display. It’s too bad they wouldn’t let us read the data off the ECU. ;) Oh well, maybe next time.
Here are a few pics from the event.
P.S. To all of our Mazdaspeed3 owners/fans out there, before you start submitting comments keep in mind that several of us (myself included!) stayed at the office working through the entire weekend, as I have for several weeks (months even) straight preparing the AccessPORT and tuning calibrations for your car.  Your day for AccessPORT bliss is coming very, very soon. Sleep well knowing that, and believe me we’ll actually get a full night sleep once it is released! :)

As we’ve been progressing with our R35 ECU development, Daryl @ JSpec Connect was kind enough to let us send an engineer out to do a few quick checks and read the data from his R35 ECU. Many, many thanks to Daryl for helping us out!! Please visit his website at www.jspecconnect.com.

Last weekend some of the COBB team headed out to Buttonwillow raceway to take part in the first round of the Redline Time Attack series. We brought our 2008 STi and EVO X demo cars for ride alongs and our Mazdaspeed3 for ride alongs and to compete in the Front Wheel Drive Street class in Time Attack.
While we love building and seeing all-out Time Attack cars, the reality is the overwhelming majority of our parts are designed for daily driven street use. This is why we’ve often chosen to compete our demo cars in a Street class. It demonstrates what is possible by using our parts on a car you can drive to and from the track on the weekend and commute to work during the week.
BIG CONGRATULATIONS to our own Billy Brooks who piloted our Mazdaspeed3 to a Street Class win, 4 seconds ahead of the 2nd place car!

This car is the ultimate challenge because it’s just so good from the factory… I have long been a fan of the model and have been very fortunate to have, at one time or another, owned everything from a Hakosuka and Kenmeri, to a BNR32 and on to now the R35. If you can make it out to the GT Live here in Utah, we’ve arranged with fellow GT-R enthusiasts have a display there that will have each generation of the GT-R models (6 in total – KPGC10, KPCG110, BNR32, BCNR33, BNR34, R35). I hope to see you there!

Just a quick shot of our G37S demo car. A lot of work is going into this at the moment, particularly on the ECU. This car is out at Performance Nissan’s meet out in California for the weekend. Stop by if you’re in the area!

In preparation for the Redline Time Attack at Buttonwillow, several production ready parts were all installed to our new EVO X so we could put them through their paces on track. Below are several pictures of the current state of our EVO X demo car.
Part list:
COBB AccessPORT
COBB Downpipe (304 SS)
COBB High Flow Cat (304 SS)
COBB Cat-back exhaust (304 SS)

First article production pieces are done. Overall, we’re extremely pleased. This past weekend we put our 2008 STi through its paces at Buttonwillow and found a few areas we can make some subtle improvements to this design. Yes, we’ll take it on the chin from those that occasionally complain of our time to market but ultimately we’re a) enthusiasts and b) picky so we like to make sure things are right rather than just sell-able. Does it mean we’re perfect because we care? No, but we’d still rather care.
Alrighty, on to some pics!
We’ll post some SAE sound ratings soon but the good news is we’re well within legal limits, even with our high flow catted downpipe. We also drove the car from Buttonwillow to Salt Lake City and the driver and passengers reported a nice, non-droning exhaust note the entire trip. That’s important considering how ‘hatch’ models tend to amplify exhaust tones in the cabin.

Some claims had been made to suggest the new Nissan GT-R ECU was encrypted and ‘uncrackable’. Well folks, we’ve ‘cracked’ it. Our own GT-R is a JDM version with the fun-sapping 180 kph (112mph) speed limiter. Thankfully, it can now be removed. We’ll continue to do more in-house testing and hopefully get some beta AccessPORTs out to the other two JDM GT-Rs in the US inflicted with the same speed limiter woes. By the time North American spec cars arrive, we should be well prepared and practiced in the art of tuning the GT-R’s ECU.
Stay tuned for more tuning updates as we begin to see what can be extracted from the new GT-R with some ECU tuning!
P.S. For the 2007+ 350Z and newer G35/G37 owners reading this, don’t worry…we’re already testing the AccessPORT for your vehicles as well. We have both a 2007 350Z and a 2008 G37 both undergoing ECU development as we speak. :)
